CAPTURE LIFE’S
STORIES
About
tiny atelier is a creative space, founded in 2020 by Arlette van Cleeff. It’s a place where I explore the intersection of human connection and artistic expression. With a background as a psychologist and my journey through photography and mixed media, I created tiny atelier to give memories and emotions a lasting presence in art.
My creative process is fluid and ever-evolving. It always begins with a photograph—sometimes just one, sometimes a combination of many—but the transformation doesn't stop there. The real work happens in the process of deconstruction and reconstruction, as I layer and shape the familiar into something new. I embrace the element of chance that adds a sense of unpredictability to each piece of work. The layers, thread or brush become more than just a tool; it connects and separates, symbolizing the layers of life—memories, thoughts, and emotions—that we all carry with us.
Much of my work straddles the line between reality and emotion. It’s not just about capturing a moment, but about expressing the feelings that it evokes. I don’t approach each piece with a clear end in mind. Instead, I allow myself the freedom to explore and create as the process unfolds. This freedom turns my work into a journey—one that is both literal and figurative, one of healing, self-expression, and constant growth.
At tiny atelier, art becomes more than just a visual creation—it becomes a way to connect, reflect, and share stories. Through the fusion of photography, mixed media, and thoughtful craftsmanship, I aim to create pieces that resonate deeply and invite the viewer to pause and reflect.
tiny atelier is named after my grandmother, Tiny. The idea was born from the desire to connect with her at the same age, in the prime of both our lives.
